On 17 February 2026, I was interviewed by Deenesh Seeharry for Info Soirée to discuss the strategic implications of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 for Mauritius. With our Prime Minister leading a significant delegation to New Delhi, the potential for national growth is substantial.
The presence of 45 ministerial delegations and 20 heads of state creates a unique diplomatic sandbox. For Mauritius, this is an opportunity to exchange success stories and bypass traditional trial-and-error phases, leading to faster implementation of AI solutions. Furthermore, the summit positions Mauritius as a prime destination for foreign direct investment in the tech sector.
A critical point I made was the inherent bias in current AI models, which are largely trained on Western data. India’s initiative to develop and share open-source, contextualized local models is a game-changer. It allows a sovereign nation like Mauritius to accelerate its development strategy using tools that actually reflect its regional reality.
We also explored the evolution from generative AI to Agentic AI—systems that don’t just write, but execute manual tasks. In the immediate future, this could revolutionize education. By leveraging existing content within our institutions (e.g. MIE, UoM, etc.), we can develop localized AI assistants to help students master their courses more effectively.
Ultimately, by automating the mundane, Agentic AI can return quality time to us, allowing for more moments with family and friends, which is, at the end of the day, the thing that truly matter.
